Specify both realities.
Separate resident, public, and care conditions
Create material/detail groups for:
- resident-unit kitchens and vanities;
- dining and activity surfaces;
- reception and public transaction counters;
- public restrooms;
- staff break and work areas;
- medication or clinical support spaces; and
- housekeeping/service counters.

Coordinate accessible use from the section
Applicable federal requirements may cover dining/work surfaces, sales/service counters, sinks, and clearances. The U.S. Access Board provides the 2010 ADA Standards and figures (ADA Standards). Project-specific scoping and local requirements must be resolved by the design professional.
Show top thickness, edge buildup, brackets, cabinet sides, sink bowl, piping protection, and clear floor space. A late material change can alter those dimensions.
Match cleaning to the selected product
CDC describes environmental cleaning as a facility program with procedures, supplies, training, and monitoring (CDC environmental cleaning programs). Ask the operator which cleaners are used in each space.
If solid surface is selected, use the exact manufacturer’s technical and care documents. Corian publishes a healthcare disinfectants bulletin for its material, but that does not approve every cleaner for every product (Corian healthcare disinfectants bulletin).
Design the repair path
Ask:
- Can a damaged top be repaired in place?
- Can the room be taken out of service?
- Is the color/product likely to remain orderable?
- Are sinks and fixtures removable without destroying adjacent work?
- Are top marks and product records retained for replacement?
Repeat without hiding exceptions
Standardize unit types, sink models, depths, backsplashes, and edges. Then give accessible units, end units, corner units, and field-modified rooms distinct marks. Packaging should carry building, floor, unit, room, and top mark.
Plan occupied-area work
For renovation, confirm resident relocation, infection-control or dust requirements, elevator hours, noise windows, removal path, temporary protection, and daily clean-down. A fast fabrication date is only useful when the work area can receive the top.
Separate replacement tops from new construction in the register. Existing walls and cabinets may require measurement, scribe allowances, or phased removal that a repeat-unit plan does not show.
Senior living work succeeds when residents get a calm finished environment and operations gets a clear maintenance record. Both are specification requirements, even if only one appears on the sample board.
